On Monday Henry Shelton and Jonathan Evens were at St Pauls Goodmayes where Commission For Mission is undertaking its first commission, a set of 15 Stations of the Cross (including a resurrection station) undertaken by Henry.
On the Sunday, the congregation had viewed the designs for the set as well as the first Station to be created (Station IV) together with an early version of the Resurrection Station (see first photo). For this series of Stations, Henry is working to a semi-abstract design using symbols such as the crown of thorns to re-present the characters in each scene.
As can be seen from the photos above, St Pauls, which dates from 1903, has had a tradition of commissioning contemporary art from different generations of its worshippers to which this commission will add.
