Inspire: art as spiritual exploration promises be one of commission4mission's most varied, exciting and interesting shows.

Ross Ashmore will show his depiction of St Stephen Walbrook, the venue for the exhibition, in addition to a sculpture of the Martyrdom of St Stephen. The same theme features in a life-size painting by Peter Webb, who is also exhibiting his latest wooden relief. Two of Anne Creasey's visionary works are included, as are two works by Pouka which also featured in our recent Deconstructing c o n f l i c t show. Among other work included will be Christopher Clack and Francesca Ross's archival ink prints, Caroline Richardson's fused glass panels, mosaics by Alan Hitching, and stone carvings by Clorinda Goodman. The show will be completed with work by Ally Ashworth, Hayley Bowen, Harvey Bradley, Valerie Dean, Peter Delaney, Jonathan Evens, Mark Lewis, Janet Roberts and Henry Shelton.

Inspire will be at St Stephen Walbrook from Monday 18th - Friday 29th November, 10.00am - 6.00pm (closed on Sunday 24th November). A Private View will be held on Monday 18th November, 6.00pm - 8.00pm.

Ross Ashmore live painted recently at the London Transport Museum's Acton Depot (see above) and is currently exhibiting at 'Artistsmeet', a contemporary exhibition space in the foyer of Watersmeet Rickmansworth.

Caroline Richardson has provided several pieces for the Church of the Good Shepherd Collier Row including the above silk banner positioned alongside the altar.

commission4mission's Greenbelt market stall

commission4mission's market stall at this year's Greenbelt Festival has been organised for us by Harvey Bradley, who will be showing ceramics and paintings at the stall.

Harvey's work will be supplemented by a selection of original work from Hayley Bowen, Ally Clarke, Elizabeth Duncan Meyer, Jonathan Evens, Mark Lewis, Caroline Richardson, Joy Rousell Stone, Henry Shelton and Peter Webb.

Additionally, we will have cards, jewellery, meditations, notebooks and t-shirts produced by our artists for sale, as well as information about our work on commissions, events, exhibitions and publications.

Please do come to see us if you will be at Greenbelt this year.

franciscan: three articles

Three commission4mission members have written articles on the arts for the latest edition of franciscan, which is published three times a year by the First Order brothers and sisters and includes articles on Franciscan themes, as well as book reviews and news of the Society.

The three articles are:

• Facets of faith: the gospel in modern and contemporary art by Jonathan Evens;
• Father Andrew the artist: Plaistow friar, who never lost his boyhood enthusiasm for all things artistic by Steven Saxby; and
• Re-imagining the gospels by Helen Gheorghiu Gould.

The article by Jonathan features the work of Ally Clarke, Caroline Richardson and Sergiy Shkanov while Helen's piece includes interviews with Mark Lewis, Henry Shelton and Peter Webb.

Wendy McTernan curated and organised an excellent commission4mission exhibition at Wimbledon Library Gallery. Those who came appreciated the look and feel of the show, our invigilators had several valuable conversations with those who came, we also made a number of new contacts and gained new members. Midnight Church by Elizabeth Duncan Meyer and Transforming Power by Caroline Richardson were amongst several works which sold.

Tokarska Gallery: commission4mission exhibition

Our Christmas exhibition at the Tokarska Gallery opened today and features a variety of c4m artists working in a variety of media (ceramics, concept drawings, fused glass, paintings, painted wooden reliefs), styles (abstract, conceptual, figurative, semi-abstract) and content (biblical scenes, landscapes, portraits, still life, symbolic scenes).

An exhibition designed to encourage the commissioning of contemporary Christian art opens in the Tokarska Gallery on Thursday 1st December 2011. commission4mission artists will show work in a variety of media, including concept drawings, fused glass, paintings, pottery and reliefs. With much of the work exploring Christian themes, this exhibition will be of particular relevance and interest in the preparations for Christmas. Jonathan Evens, secretary of commission4mission, explains: ‘This exhibition demonstrates some of the ways commissioned art can be used to enhance a place of worship and add another dimension to a church’s mission.’
