Membership information & contact

Membership of commission4mission is open to any Christian artist (of any discipline) or supporter of Christian Art. commission4mission promotes the purchase of artworks by churches through donations given in memory of loved ones, with these people being commemorated in plaques placed (wherever possible) on or near the artwork itself. All commissions undertaken by commission4mission involve a significant proportion of the overall cost being donated to charity.

Projects

commission4mission created an Art Trail for the Barking Episcopal Area within the Diocese of Chelmsford. Click here for further information and a leaflet about the Art Trail.

Run with the Fire was an arts project for the 2012 Olympic year organised by CANA, commission4mission and Veritasse based on the image of fire which links the Church's Pentecost celebration with that of the Olympic runner. Run with the Fire provides a digital art exhibition for use in Olympic-themed events and can be purchased by clicking here.

Mark of the Cross features 20 poetic meditations on Christ's journey to the cross and reactions to his resurrection and ascension (images by Henry Shelton and words by Jonathan Evens).

The Passion: Reflections and Prayer features pictures, poems and prayers by Henry Shelton and Jonathan Evens which enable us to follow Jesus on his journey to the cross reflecting both on the significance and the pain of that journey as we do so and published as a double-sided A3 sheet with all the images, haiku-like meditations and prayers laid out in sequence for ease of devotional use.

May 2013 - Pop-Up exhibition in Harlow Town Centre as part of the Barking Episcopal Area Arts Festival.

March 2013 - Installation of altar frontal by Anne Creasey at Christ Church Thames View. c4m's 10th completed commission.

December 2012 - 'Incarnation', a Christmas exhibition at Wimbledon Library Gallery.

October 2012 - The Big Draw workshop at St Mary's Woodford and a c4m exhibition at All Saints Woodford Wells as part of the Woodford Festival and the Arts Festival for the Barking Episcopal Area.

October 2012 - Completion of a commission for two painted wooden reliefs by Peter Webb (Heads of Mary Magdalene and Jesus Christ) for Dagenham Park Church of England School.

May 2012 - 'Run with the Fire' exhibition at the Strand Gallery London as part of the Pentecost Festival.

March 2012 - Dedication of Holy Water Stoup by Mark Lewis at St Margaret Great Ilford.

December 2011 - Christmas exhibition at the Tokarska Gallery Walthamstow.

November 2011 - Completition of commission for four etched windows on the theme of the four Evangelists at All Saints Hutton (designs by Henry Shelton, etching by Richard Paton).

October 2011 - Dedication by the Bishop of Barking of mosaics by Viki Isherwood-Metzler and Sergiy Shkanov at St John's Seven Kings.

September 2011 - commission4mission exhibition at St Mary Magdalen Billericay for the A127 Art Trail.

September 2011 - Study day on the value of public art at St Paul's Harlow. Speakers: The Bishop of Barking and Benedict Read. Visits to the Gibberd Gallery and Town Centre sculpture trail. Supported by the Harlow Art Trust and Art and Christianity Enquiry.

September 2011 - Stations of the Cross by Henry Shelton exhibited at St Saviour's Walthamstow as part of the E17 Art Trail. Now on long-term loan to the church.

July 2011 - commission4mission exhibition at Holy Trinity and St Augustine of Hippo for the Barking Episcopal Area Art Festival (included presentations on the Art Trail for the Barking Episcopal Area and on a sculptural relief by Stephen Sykes).

July 2011 - commission4mission exhibition at the Crypt Gallery in St Martin-in-Fields.

April 2011 - Colours and Stations of the Cross. Stations of the Cross by Rosalind Hore and pottery by Harvey Bradley at All Saints Maldon.

March 2011 - Dedications of Henry Shelton and Richard Paton's memorial etched windows at All Saints Hutton by the Archdeacon of Southend.

February 2011 - Launch of the Art Trail for the Barking Episcopal Area by the Bishop of Chelmsford at St Paul's Goodmayes.

January 2011 - Dedication of Caroline Richardson's two fused glass windows at St Peter's Harold Wood by the Bishop of Chelmsford.

January 2011 - Dedication of Rosalind Hore's 'The Baptism of Jesus' at St Edmund's Tyseley by Revd. Jonathan Evens, Secretary of commission4mission.

October 2010 - 'Peacing Together One World' exhibition and performance evening at St Mary Magdalene Billericay.

July 2010 - Dedication of Henry Shelton's 'Stations of the Crown of Thorns' commission at St Paul's Goodmayes by the Bishop of Barking together with an artist's networking event (member's presentations).

March 2010 - Group show begins in ongoing exhibition space for c4m at All Saints West Ham.

March 2010 - 'Grace & Passion', an exhibition for Passiontide at St Laurence Upminster. This exhibition included a new set of 'Stations of the Cross' by Rosalind Hore and a varied selection of works by other commission4mission members. A networking event ('Stations of the Cross') was also held during this exhibition.

November 2009 - Showcase exhibition & Study Day ('Perspective on commissioning Christian Art'), Chelmsford Cathedral.

September 2009 - 'A Spiritual Home', exhibition of 'Stations of the Cross' by Henry Shelton at St Barnabas Walthamstow as part of the E17 Art Trail.

September 2009 - 'Do this in remembrance ...' & 'Crucifixion' by Henry Shelton, 'Tree of Life' by Caroline Richardson - commissions dedicated in the St Luke's Chapel, Queens Hospital Romford.

July 2009 - Exhibition & Artist's Networking evening ('Spirituality - the heartbeat of Art?') at St Andrew's Leytonstone as part of the Leytonstone Art Trail.
